Sarah Lucas

During the project I have been looking at alot of Sarah Lucas and her work. I love the materials she uses and have found some of her pieces quiet funny. She is a new artist I have come across and I am learning more about her.

The awkward moment when you become the doll???

I did not like this brief at all I found it weird! I knew what I was doing and thought I had it under control but turns out I did not. In the end my doll self turned out better than the first one. After my lecture sat me down and told me how shit my work was I got the hint! Had a moment and went to the bathroom and removed my clothes and put them on my doll self! I was stressed and confused! I think I know what he was talking about. But ! It was hard to take so just sucked it up and took it on the chin! Now I am actually content with my doll as it does appear to resemble a self image of me. The CLOTHES I wear the messy hair that makes me swear everyday and the potatoes and brushes added for character. I found he came down on me a bit too hard about my work but I suppose he was trying to make me see what I saw. I originally had ideas of a video in my head and had it all set up to go but unfortunately my friend cancelled on me. I suppose if I wanted to go through with it I still could!
Here are some photos of my doll self showing the progress of my work or doll.

Doll project - Sem 2 - Sculpture

A new brief on a doll project were we have to make a self image of ourselves half our size. JAYSUS! Kind of creepy I admit! yes! But sure here goes! It is interesting .... I would like to make another version of myself. Sometimes I feel like two people so it won't be a problem to create another Miriam ha ha. Bring it on! Challenge accepted! I was thinking on doing another version of myself but making features that really annoy me in my everyday skin bigger, smaller, ugly or pretty! It will be fun .... I am just thinking more about the materials I will use this time since Mike Fox gave us a presentation on different materials to use in sculpture. I found it brilliant and resourceful :) I might stay away from tights because I have used them before. I am not sure we will see, but I have been working with tin foil aswell I might consider that also. I tend to be creeped out by dolls and clowns as long as they don't look like Chukie its ok. MMMmmmm, might just have to be binned after! ah! :o

Kinaesthetically unaware

All the stress is gone for now ! I can concentrate on studio now that my ccs exam is out of the way and my essay. I just wanted to improve my essay from last term for myself really. The last few weeks have been stressful especially with Mike putting loads on our plate. I can finally relax and enjoy my work now instead of worrying about how I am going to juggle it all. Tomorrow we have to give a talk about kinaesthetics and waht we think about it as a group. Being busy doing my own work and trying to contact has been a pain I AM THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS TRIED TO ORGANISE IT. I am not even getting marked but it is still an interesting subject and would be nice to discuss. I don't know what to expect tomorrow I am just going to give my thoughts on the subject.

Three week brief - The Hunt Museum -

Started a three week brief with Sarah on the hunt museum in Limerick. Looking at what inspires us and the back stories behind the objects displayed we have to recreate or make something from are inspiration from the hunt. It sounds like fun I want to know more already. Interesting and it is nice to do something away from the body because Micheal Canning loves giving us projects on the body. As much as I love the body and being a qualified beauty therapist you can get sick of it from time to time. Yawwwwwwn* Thank you Sarah for this! :)

One day project - Measurement and the body

We have a one day project that finishes at 4 today. It is a bit crazy but good for thinking fast I think. It is about the measurements of the body. I am keeping it simple and decided to use an everyday material that will not cost alot of money. Also bearing in mind the time I have to make a sculpture and stick some ideas together. I have decided to work with scale of the body and make portions bigger or smaller, longer or fatter. In my last project I dealt alot with the inside of the body and I was looking at veins and the anatomy. This time I want to stay away from that and keep it simple. It is cool cause I am looking at new material and something new!

These are a few images to get me started and to spark some ideas and inspiration. Looking at the body and different portions and sizes and the material I am going to use.
