Starting sculpture

Piercing different fabrics to create texture.

'' Aint no mountain high enough ''

Talking about mountains during the romantisim period in ccs today and the symbolism of them. The lecturer recommended Led Zeppelin's tune. He was speaking about the feelings associated with mountains and being alone looking down at the world. It was very inspiring to listen and I thought it was quiet cool how he linked this link to his lecture. Led Zeppelin would be one of my favourite bands to listen to since a teenager. It makes you think about lyrics, poetry, writing, drama and dance. The arts are linked into art and our experiences contribute to it.

I got my ccs essay back and I was pretty happy to pass. But I see my mistakes and can learn from them. It made me feel bad about myself because english is my language and it is something we should know. But third level is different and formal writing is not easy. I take my hat off to anybody studying it. I suppose there is an art to each subject!

Trying to understand paint

Painting Progress

Finished the painting elective and I am happy it is over because my body hurts. Painting comes across relaxing and not hard work but it is when you are doing it as a job. I loved the two weeks and I found myself lost and challanged at times. This is all apart of the two week elective experience I geuss. I just love mark making and using acrylics. It was trial and error with painting! I found some pictures came out nice while others came out not so good. It is all part of learning how to see and using your hands. The paint mixing and the prep work before hand of making your thumbnails was more time consuming. I really enjoyed my experience with paint. I just felt the tutors were not as passionate about painting, I had loads of questions about painting but I feel I was seen as a burden. Perhaps they thought I was younger than what I am and not an eager mature student.

Mushrooms!

I started looking at the texture of mushrooms! I thought they were amazing! Something about them that I find fascinating. The texture and colours would be lovely to paint.

Blind drawing with pencil

Blind drawing is when you look at what is in front of you and draw a series of lines that make up the picture. You don't look at the canvas and place your easel beside you with your body horizontal to the canvas and you are looking directly what is in front of your eye and not the canvas. At first I found the exercise stupid, but now I like it and it grew on me. I like the way you end up with a series of random lines and shapes. How very abstract! I was practising this technique with pencil at home, it relaxes your hand and makes you feel loose and not up tight.

Sculpture!

Before painting we were asked to bring in a series of objects relating to colour. We had to compose a unique structure to paint. I found making the sculpture challenging. My team were disorganised and did not seem to know the difference between scale and colour. It just looked like a mess. In the end we composed what looks like a homeless man's shelter or a funky tepe tent. I found some of my paintings to be interesting regarding the piece we chose.

Painting elective 1

This week we started painting! At first I was like this is boring ! It is not me ... But after 2 days I began to like it and was having fun. I am really enjoying the elective, it was not what I expected. It was loose and fun. It was not all about painting portraits but rather looking at things in a different way and using a range of technique. We did a series of blind drawings and abstracts and more paintings using the back of a credit card . I found the credit card amazing and started looking for other things I could use also to create mark making with in the paint.

Picture perfect

I have really enjoyed working on the brief '' to sense my space '' it has been so exciting and so much fun! The journey over the last five months has been incredible. Over time I have watched something simple get ugly and have seen it turn into something beautiful. It is sad it has come to an end, but at least I have the pictures to remember the experience.
