Arnulf Rainer figure and colour

Arnulf Rainer starts to introduce figure and colour to his work which is nice to see, but still the black is the dominant colour. His pictures are dark and dreary but have something different and haunting at the same time. In some of the figures he paints, the faces are distorted with colour and the pieces of the face are not where they are supposed to be. He has taken things out of context and shown us that the pieces do not fit but so what? He has taken normal features out of their space and put them in a new one. I sense from his pictures with a colour mark or distortion to the faces of his portraits that he is invading their space.
