More beautiful apple textures!

Working on my sculpture ...

Fish wire spread on the window to create texture of my apple. It is taking some time but I am excited about it and have a few more ideas about what I can do with the texture relating to my apple.

You can see the fish wire up close and it looks like the texture of my apple. But I like the way it is invisible when it wants to be and visible at times.

Behind the wire it creates an image and I like the way the photograph changes over time. The scenery behind the wire can be reflected through and it will always be different everyday. Time changes the image constantly.

Anthony Gormley

Observing Anthony Gormley and the way he works with ink.

'' you guys made me ink ''

I am using different materials and playing around with different mediums to get the texture of my apple. I have started looking at different artists who use ink. I do not like pencil and wanted to use another medium. I like ink because it is easy to use and the result is more defined and much quicker. I have been experimenting with it and putting it in water. It bleeds onto the paper and you get a different design template each time. I am really enjoying this and observing the different inks I use, paper and material. It is fun and interesting to watch! :)

Magdalene sisters!

In contextual critical studies we are doing a project " the magdalene sisters " with my tutor David. Our class is putting together a series of images to make a short film based on the magdalene sisters. It can consist of images, picture, video footage or something made. We will put it all together to make up a short film composed by studio 1. I am looking forward to creating the film I have a few ideas of my own that I would like to develop further. I have come up with the idea to form a small group with my friends and I and we can add are imagery to the video. I think it is easier to work in a small group, the work gets done and its easy to put a plan together and work towards the goal we want to achieve. I am really excited about this topic and I think it is a brilliant idea especially when limerick college was a magdalene convent.

Progressing to 3D work ...

I started making my installation over the weekend (bare in mind it might not work). I came across clear fish wire that was perfect for the job, it almost is like a web from a spider. I feel like a spider as I make it, the string is so delicate and trying to get it to sit right is important. This string is perfect because it will give the idea that the black seeds (that is what they look like) are floating, which is what I want to achieve. I want the person looking at it to think how are those black beads (I might use) sitting there? Almost like they are floating ...

Working on my project from home.

The window and camera make it look like its outside.

Putting my hand through it looks like I am caught in a web.

I started to build it in college.

I put black paper behind it as Im working it helps me to see clearer.

My aim is trying to get the texture right.

                                                                  View from my seat.

I found a spider up there as I was working! Ironic!

Installation ...

This is my favourite texture formed from the apple. My tutors suggested I start making more things with my hands. I decided to pick this image and a few others I liked and create thumbnails using different fabrics, until I come up with a possible design I like. I would also like to make an installation from this piece, I just love the tread like texture and black seeds floating on top and all the colours in between the beautiful texture created! They are very warm, vibrant colours which is why I have an attraction towards this picture.

The intimate relationship between religion and art

I have two assignments due at the end of November so the pressure is on a little bit! I just love it ... pressure! It gets things done, no time like the present! I have choosen the title for my critical contextual essay, how central is religion to artistic life of the period 1300-1400. I have to analyse to Altarpieces at this time. It sounds like a head case to be honest, but the good kind! I am dealing with two large subjects, that you could sit here and analyse forever! There is no right or wrong answer, it is down to your views. But I am interested in this title, I have always wondered about art and religion and how religion made its way into the art world. I am looking forward to learning and constructing a good valuable essay on my views. Happy writing! :)
