Not in your skin ...

With material I imitate what it feels like to be covered up.

In Bahrain the women just cover there head and leave the rest exposed but they still cant show any   skin.
In Saudia Arabia they have to cover there whole body in the burka even there eyes (some cover there eyes) but some other countries are not as bad.

Arabic women

Arabic lady

Thinking of my apple in a box. It reminded me of how restricted it is, being in there. It made me think of Arabic women and how they are restricted in everyday life to being free. I lived over in Bahrain for a while, my Dad is currently working over there. I could not believe the culture, it was so extravagant, money orientated and like a paradise. They have the sun, money, jewels, cars, big houses, what else could they want? How about freedom? Its the women I feel for, they do not have a say. They are treated like a trophy an object, new toy, a thing! These women should surely be entitled to a life, a say even freedom. Freedom is everything, we take it for granted sometimes. But to have control of your own life is a right every person has a right to. Freedom costs nothing! These women are like they are in boxes they are restricted in there everyday life of what they want to do or who they want to be.

Hair

I am looking at a few different things as my apple is in the process of decaying. I started to look at the hairs on the apple as it grows fungus. I became interested in hair, the different types, the unusual textures. I thought about hair and the space that surrounds it, for most of us its your face. Unless your using it for art purposes like myself or for something else. But my hair is always in my face and invading my sense of space as a person. I always have it tied up in a bun, because it is so thick and curly. It can really get out of hand at times. I just hate it ... it makes life a lot more difficult. Nevermind about the crapy everyday life things but then you have to worry about your hair constantly that it sits right and how you can' t get the brush through it in the morning. AHHHHH! What life must be like to have everything so simple?!

Progress Reviews

I am a little nervous about next week my first progress review is Tuesday the 23rd of October at 11.45 am, I am excited at the same time to have somone look at my work and give me feedback on what is good and bad. It will give me some direction to see what others think of my work. I know I am excited about what I am doing. My apple (even though its gross) and a few other ideas I am studying. My project mainly consists around time and decay, how over time the things around us change and just taking an interst in this process. I hope it goes well and I am looking forward to it.

Miwa Koizumi

The material used to create these jellyfish is really cool, its transparant and it gives the texture of a jellyfish. I have a special love for these creatures after I made a costume for a fancy dress. It was fun to make and I found out loads about jellyfish. Even by the material he uses it suggests the movement of a jellyfish. It almost feels like they are floating or moving when we look at them .

.Tara Donovan- Styrofoam cups

Following one of our lectures this artist really appealed to me. I love this piece, the material used and the shapes. The light and the way it reflects through this transparent material really captures the eye. I find it to be quite unique and peaceful at the same time.

Tool - Parobola - Alex Grey

This video is very disturbing but yet absolutely mind blowing. The use of the imagery the meaning?! What does it all mean? Tool are one of my favourite music bands of all time to listen to. There art work, music and lyrics are something else. They are all on power with each other and that is why they are successful and it works. The artist for there art work and videos is Alex Grey and what an artist I would love to meet. This is so messed up stuff that I want to know where exactly he got his inspiration from and meaning? I choose this video from the rest because of the apple in it, which stands for purity.

An apple and its journey through time.

This is a little video I made to show the progress of my apple and how it has changed over time. It is my first time making a video. I am really proud that I made a short video. I just need to figure out a few more things like how to make it quicker, or put my own music on the video.

I love how it feels to paint

Using my hand to do abstract painting.

                                                                An abstract painting.

                                                                          Abstract

Abstract painting from my bun case.

                                                           Abstract painting drying.

Abstract painting drying in my room.

                                                      Abstract of the human head.

Rotten apple rotten mind ...

I started to paint and this is what I cam up with. The human head in its natural form.

I started looking at wire and it made me think of the veins in the human head.

I started playing with the idea and putting my hand behind the wire.

My hand pictured behind the wire.

I am using the wire to try and construct a human head.

It looks quite circular but I am trying to give the illusion of a human head but I don't want it to look like that exactly.

I want the wire to speak to people itself by the way it is intertwined.

Putting my face behind the wire.

A side view of my face behind the wire.

A picture of the wire piece.

The waiting game !?!?!??!?!?

Time goes on as we all know but while I am waiting for dramatic changes to happen with my apple I have decided to branch off and look at flowers over time and the leaves on the trees. Leaves are all around us at this time of the year AUTUMN, what a lovely time of the year indeed. It is my favourite season not too hot but still not that cold and it is so beautiful to watch the leaves fall off the trees as they stand there tall and naked. Autumn is like no other season, its a season of change, new beginnings, warmth and laughter. I love the feeling of the wind in my hair and the leaves dancing around my feet, the smell of a fire in the air and all the children built up with excitement for Halloween. Its just magical!!!! I started to notice the leaves on the tree and how they change colour and fall off on to the ground. I did the same with a vase of flowers at home I watched them as the colours would change and began to die. This was another example to me of watching something decay, some might say it is disgusting! I just buzz with excitement as I have been observing the colours change for a few months now, because my boyfriend bought me those flowers when I got my place in Limerick college of art and design. That was before the 10th of September .... :D I cant wait to go into college tomorrow and see my apple ... I was very sick Friday and that is why I am more eager!
